(first concept art for Diet Radio: by Busy Ritch)
Everyone can agree that there is an overload of commercials and ads in just about every outlet of entertainment, and when we find it ad-free its refreshing like an ice cold Diet Coke; all the goods, without the guilt...now apply that to radio!
Justin Ritchie, founder of custom t-shirt line Clean Clothing Group, spawned Diet Radio from just serving as music entertainment for online shoppers to a global web radio. The initial idea for an online radio was sparked by Makel Wells, while kicking back ideas with Justin. It was during this time that Justin came up with name “Diet”, while being on a Diet Coke 'tip'. His concept and reasoning behind the name was simple: “half the calories, half the bullsh*t....no fat = no commercials...Diet!” Concept out the way, Justin then got on the task of figuring out the technical aspects to get the first broadcast going.
Soon after the start of Diet Radio in March 2010, Justin began collaborating with good friend Mr. Betancourt (DR DJ). Mr. B offered his tastes in music and creative ideas to help transform Diet Radio. Along with the help of social networking site like Facebook, Diet Radio is what it is today.
“It's something really cool that I would have never thought I'd be apart of.....Diet Radio is the first of it's kind, a trusted brand in the unconventional community.....I see it capable of being loyal to its roots but at the same time evolving with the times and the music industry as a whole.”says Mr. B. “Facebook was a big part of what it is now because it was and is the primary place for promotion as well as connecting with listeners.”
Diet Radio nows has listeners in 15+ countries including Brazil, Bahamas, USA, France and Canada...just to name a few. Listeners are also given the option to expand their music library’s with direct links to purchase featured music on iTunes. It serves as a place for those eager for new music and supporting upcoming independent bands. Best of all, Diet Radio is streaming commercial free music 24/7 !
